Hello! I never tell you about what I'm doing and so people think I'm not doing anything. That's silly of me, so here's what's going on.

TMNT

We saw the new Ninja Turtles film a couple of Wednesdays ago, and it was so good we're definitely going again. I posted my review on the Wonderblog ( www.wonderfist.net/blog ), but that was then.

This is now, so I'm going to add this last word on reflection: the best and most refreshing thing about the film, which I thought was really good, was that it unveiled to us a new, smaller animation company who ISN'T following the Dreamworks route. In fact in interview, which you can read here: www.comicbookresources.com/new… , the producer says as much.

"We just didn't want to do a DreamWorks movie where everyone's a famous player, where the names of the actors are bigger than the title of the movie."

Music to the ears (eyes?) of any animation fan. Well, any animation fan who can tell you their name without having to think too hard, anyway.

THINGS I'M MAKING

Work continues on various projects. I'm getting back into writing, having just finished a revision (total overhaul) of the script for a comic, which Andy "2hands" Tunney :iconandrewtunney: is down to illustrate.

I can't tell you what it is yet, but I can tell you about writing it! I first wrote this comic on holiday with my family as a teenager - I wasted most of the holiday on it, in fact. The problem was that I just wrote it as it came to me, and the result was a fat thirty-eight page mess, written mostly in awful cliches and chunks of flowery prose designed to hide the fact that the actual panels they were describing would be very boring.

For this new version I was determined to do it properly now I'm something like a grownup, and so I wove the whole thing very carefully together in such a way as to have each scene depend on the one before it and after it, resulting in a neat 22 pages that magically contain all the good stuff from the stupid version and none of the stupid. It was quite a challenge, but I did it. Whether it has its own brand-new stupid is up to whoever gets to read it to decide.

I think it's pretty good though, so that's done, and I've been writing out some ideas for short stories that I might send off to... oh. Who do you send short stories to again, exactly?

In terms of drawing, I'm still ploughing my way through my comic and thinking about actually making and selling it now. After a long period of quiet, the team at Travelling Man Manchester are pushing the creative side of their weekly comics night (7pm-10pm Thursdays). That should be great, and I hope to get a fair bit more done there than I sometimes do. I was particularly useless at this last one, having discovered I'd drawn everything I could possibly draw on paper (for currently open projects) and needed my computer to do anything at all. Not much help when you're in town. I'll make sure to take some inking along or something next week.

But apart from that, Abby "1nose" Ryder and I have come up with some ideas about how to shove ourselves forwards a bit and get things moving career-wise. We just need to work out who to aim them at. Watch this space. Or even better, this one:  :iconabigailryder:

DON'T READ THIS, IT'S VERY BORING AND I DON'T SAY ANYTHING IN IT.

I haven't been contributing to DA (or my website) for a while, because our computer's been on the blink. It's finally fixed and working now though, so we're back on track and you can expect to see some new stuff from me. I really enjoyed doing that recent Mario I did, so there'll be a bit more of that, perhaps even starting tonight.

What this means is that I'm now able to start jobbing again. We've come up with lots of ideas about how to get going again, so I'll be doing that sort of thing this week I should think. Obviously if anyone reading this wants to commission me to draw anything, let me know.

The main thing is that Demon Tomato issue two is coming along, which means I'll be getting issue one ready to print & sell, and so really I ought to be showing you some sample drawings from that, characters and the like. Give me a nudge if I haven't started showing you those soon.

Gosh, this was a dull journal entry. Don't bother reading it, it's rubbish. I'm going to add a warning on the beginning so you know well in advance not to bother reading this. Which means if you've got this far you're addicted to boring things on the internet and it's time you went outside and stopped being such a big fat lazy whiner, and actually did something with your life, and then perhaps the revenue people won't be quite as mean to you any more.

The doodlings of Abby Ryder and myself are currently published by Future Publications in Zap! magazine, which is a games review mag for kids. It's going to be somewhere near Jetix magazine on the shelf, so if you fancy that, go and have a look. Abby's got four pages of comics in there based around the exploits of the magazine's title characters (most of whom she designed, two of whom she embellished from initial design sketches by someone in the office) and I've got one: Dwayne Munter, Alien Hunter. Think Steve Irwin in space. It's a bit of a laugh and might I say the drawings are quite brilliant.

It's been about a year since I last wrote one of these, so to summarise, I am now a professional freelance somethingorother, I'm having a great time being it, and Abby and I are generally quite pleased with our lot. I'll fill you in on what I'll be doing next some other time (ie when it's out). Meanwhile have a look at Zap or, if you're feeling a bit tight-fisted today or aren't in the UK, you can see what I've got here, and then have a look at davebulmer.com where most of the artwork is different, or at least coloured in.

And can someone start leaving comments on my newer things please, I'm getting nothing. I know I haven't been doing much whoring lately but some of you must still have me on your friends list surely. Torment fans will be interested in Zombie and Nameless One.

Here's Abby. :iconabigailryder:  She's very good. By the way, my profile says I'm 22, I'm actually 23 but I'm not changing it yet because I'm nearly 24 so I may as well wait.

And now, a journal entry!

I'm working on a comic. This is less of a "one day I might do a comic" and more of a "it's done! Now, should I scan it, or do more and never ever scan it?"

I'm trying to come to a compromise. I'm working on five pages of backup story to go along with the 22 pages i already have of regular story (i'm not published, i can do as much as i like), and then I'm going to wrap it all together and see if i can flog any copies to anyone.

You'll see maybe a couple of sample pages here, certainly one from the backup story I've already singled-out, and then there'll be a choice if you want to read the rest. Either you can give me a few quid and I can send you a printed copy, or you can wait till I do the super Flash version, which will be approximately never EVER.

Anyway, hopefully I can get something done by the con at the end of the month.

And that was a journal entry!

And now, a journal entry!

Today, I'm good at drawing. Have a look at my most recent three submissions. See? I don't always rock, but tonight, I rock.
