Someone I know had a run-in with some "chav" girls on a bus recently, in which they slapped his face and tried to set fire to his hair. He protested at this behaviour and had them thrown off the bus, but in posting his story online he sparked a debate. The English people there confirmed his hatred of these out-of-control kids, and said the best thing to do is ignore them.

The Americans, however, stepped up to proclaim that this was nancyboy limey behaviour, and the proper course of action would have been to deliver swift and fast corporal self-defence upon the girls. Methods including the stairs, the windows, the metal bannisters and good old fashioned fists and feet were all suggested.

Okay, so that's an exaggeration, not ALL the Americans said that - but some did, without realising that in this country "self defence" has to be quite clearly that, and nothing more - it isn't okay to punch a 12-14 year old girl full in the face even if she is trying to set fire to you.

I drew this cartoon to illustrate the argument thus far, and it went down a storm. The man with the singed hair added the picture to his original post, and we were pleasantly surprised to find hits on our web space from places we'd never heard of - with a spot of quick searching we found that the picture had been spread about the web a bit. This was a very minor spreading, we're talking three or four forums and that's it, but it's more than I've had before. So I altered the image (since they were linking to the original every time) to include a link to this gallery. Hi, everyone who came here from the cartoon!
